Abstract

Study was conducted to evaluate the effect of plane of nutrition on nitrogen balance, blood biochemical and serum enzymes in goats. Eighteen non-descript, local adult male goats were randomly divided into three equal groups as per RBD (randomized block design) and were subjected to three plane of nutrition: Control PR (40% protein restricted) and ER (40% energy restricted). Feeding trial was conducted for one month with a metabolism trial of one week during the last week of trial. Blood was collected from the goats at every 10 days interval. All the goats were in positive nitrogen balance including PR group, indicating that protein requirement of these goats for maintenance appears to be lower than the recommendation. ER group was having significantly higher urinary N excretion, indicating that ER group goats were using protein for energy purpose, which was also substantiated by significantly higher BUN levels in ER group.
