Factors Affecting the Levels of Certain Serum Electrolytes and Enzymes in Assam Local and Beetal ×Assam Local Kids

Abstract

Some genetic and non-genetic factors affecting the levels of serum Na, K, Ca, P, Mg, AKP and ACP were studied from 246 kids at 1 month of age belonging to three genetic groups viz. Assam Local, ½ Beetal-½ Assam Local and ¾ Beetal- 1/4 Assam Local goats maintained at the Experimental Livestock Farm, Department of Animal Physiology, Goat Research Station, Burnihat and the Livestock Research Station, Mandira, Assam Agricultural University.The least-squares means for serum Na, K, Ca, Mg, P, AKP and ACP levels were 158.14 ± 0.65mEq/l, 5.69 ± 0.07mEq/l, 8.08 ± 0.05 mg%, 2.62 ± 0.02 mg%, 5.36 ± 0.05 mg%, 16.54 ± 0.37 KAU and 1.51 ± 0.04 KAU respectively. The effect of genetic group, sex of kid, kidding order, season of kidding and type of birth on Na and ACP levels at 1 month of age were non-significant. Sex of kid had significant effect on K level at 1 month of age. All the other factors had non-significant effect on K level. Genetic group and sex of kid exerted significant effect on Ca, P and AKP level at 1 month of age. Effect of all the other factors on these traits were not significant. Genetic group had significant effect on Mg level at 1 month of age. All the other factors had non-significant effect on Mg level.
