Model describing lactation trend of milk casein of Murrah buffaloes

Abstract

The overall milk casein averaged to 3.02±0.01 per cent showed significant (P<0.01) effect of month of lactation and years of study. The milk casein (3.23±0.03 per cent) during first month of lactation decreased successively after calving to its lowest level (2.89±0.03 percent) during fourth and fifth months and increased thereafter at subsequent months to 3.16±0.04 per cent during tenth month of lactation. The three measures of fit adjudged gamma type function: Yt = 3.1336 t−0.1716 e0.0400t as best representative nonlinear model explaining lactation trend of milk casein of Murrah buffaloes. The fitted model to least squares means at ten monthly points of lactation described the decreasing phase of milk casein after calving to minimum level of 2.89 per cent at 4.30 month of lactation and increasing phase thereafter in close agreement to its observed trend in milk of Murrah buffaloes.
