The birth weight data on 90 indigenous calves of Assam, born during August’05 to April’06 were analyzed to study the effects of sex of the calf and the lactation order of the dam on birth weight of calf. The overall mean body weight at birth of indigenous cattle of Assam was found to be 14.667±0.150 kg. The effect of sex of the calf was found to be significant on birth weight. The mean body weight at birth in male calves (15.466±0.203 kg) was significantly higher than the female calves (13.868±0.201 kg). The difference in birth weight between lactations was found to be non-significant.
