Twelve Escherichia coli isolates from colibacillosis cases of chickens were investigated for the presence of genes encoding ‘curli adhesin (crl and csgA) by polymerase chain reaction using two different sets of primers. The results showed the presence of crl gene in 7 isolates and csgA gene in 5 isolates out of 12 isolates tested. Curli genes were ubiquitous among E. coli. Further, Almost all the 12 isolates having curli genes were found to have haemagglutination (HA) ability suggesting possible role of curli adhesin to mediate heamagglutination and enhancing pathogenecity process.
