Abstract

The present study was conducted on 24 Deccani sheep. The animals were grouped into four groups as 0–3 months age, 4–6 months age 7 to 9 months age and 10–12 months age. Crimp and kemp wool follicles were observed in all groups. Presence of medulla in the kemp wool follicles and its absence in the crimp wool follicles. The S/P (Secondary/Primary) ratio of kemp wool follicles in group I, II, III and IV was 1.84 ± 0.14, 2.30 ± 0.09, 2.90 ± 0.09 and 4.50 ± 0.06 respectively. The S/P ratio of crimp wool follicles in group I, II, III and IV was as 1.05 ± 0.03, 1.90 ± 0.07, 1.95 ± 0.12 and 1.96 ± 0.04 respectively.
