Records pertaining to 51 farrowing of Hampshire, Large Black and Crossbred (Hampshire × Indigenous) pigs maintained at the ‘30 Sow Teaching Unit’, College of Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara, Guwahati were utilized. The animals were reared under intensive system of management. The least-squares averages for duration of farrowing in Hampshire, Large Black and Crossbred were respectively, 4.54±0.01, 4.72±0.55 and 4.15±0.51 and the populatton average was 4.47±0.41 hours. The effects of genetic group, litter size and litter weight at birth, parity of dam, season of farrowing and farrowing time in a day were all found to be non-significant. Regression of duration of farrowing on gestation period was negative, but it was not significant there was a definite trend of increase in duration of farrowing with increase in litter size at birth, litter weight at birth and parity. Similar study, involving larger nuumber of records was envisaged.
