Signaling is used between user and thenetwork, or between two network elements toexchange various control information like traffic descriptors, service descriptors, channel identifiers etc. In other words, Signaling is used todynamically establish, monitor, and releaseconnections (including physical, virtual andlogical connections). The latest signaling implemented worldwide is Common Channel Signaling. This type of signaling is essential for setting up of ISDN network. It is a worldwide standard for telecommunications defined by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITUT). [1] It defines the procedures and protocol by which network elements in the public switched telephone network (PSTN) exchange information over a digital signaling network to enable wireless (cellular) and wireline call setup, routing, and control. CCS is a digital communications technique that provides simultaneous transmission of user data, signaling data, and other related traffic throughout a network. This is accomplished by using out-of-band signaling channels which logically separate the network data from the user information (voice or data) on the same channel. For second generation wireless communications systems, CCS is used to pass user data and control/supervisory signals between the subscriber and the base station, between the base station and the MSC, and between MSCs
