Heterosis and heterobeltosis studies for grain yield and yield attributing traits in rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Abstract

The heterosis study on grain yield and its nine components was carried out by using ten parents, their fourty five hybrids at Main Rice Research Centre, Navsari Agricultural University (NAU), Navsari during kharif-2015. Analysis of variance for parents and hybrids revealed that the mean squares due to genotypes were significant for all the characters. Considerable magnitude of heterosis, heterobeltiosis and standard heterosis was observed for all the characters. Crosses GNR-3 x GAR-13, GNR-3 x IET-23825 and IET-24762 x IET-24765 were found to be most heterotic hybrids for grain yield per plant. Simultaneous increase in grains per panicle per plant and productive tillers per plant had positive effects towards higher grain yield.
