<p>Wilt of chick pea (<italic>Cicer arietinum</italic> L.) caused by <italic>Fusarium oxysporum</italic> schl. emend. synd and Hans. f. sp. <italic>ciceri</italic> (Padw.) synd. and Hans., is prevalent in all chick pea growing areas of the country. To find out sources of resistance to chick pea wilt, was started from more than 42 years ago at Kanpur and some resistant varieties were identified. For the development of resistant crop varieties, the field screening should be a regular practice. Therefore, the present investigation was undertaken.</p><p>Four hundred seventy germplasms were tested for three years i.e. 2000–2001, 2001–2002 and 2002–2003 under field conditions in wilt sick plot. For creating epidemic of the wilt disease 20 days old inoculum of <italic>F. oxysporum</italic> f. sp. <italic>ciceri</italic>, raised on the sand maize meal medium (10:1), was added in furrow at the time of sowing @ 10 g/row. All the germplasms were sown in 4 m long row, spaced 50 cm apart in two replications. A highly wilt susceptible cv. Radhey was sown after each of 10 rows to ensure uniform distribution of the pathogen. The disease was mostly observed when the crop was twenty days old. Eight germplasms viz., KGD-1168, KGD-1221, H 82–2, JG 74, JG 315, KWR-1, KWR-30, KWR-1036 were found moderately resistant. Forty two germplasm lines including KG-13, KG-105, KWR 12, KWR-29, KWR-46, KWR-82 and Vardan were found tolerant. One hundred twenty lines including Pusa-256, Pusa-272, KGD 1189,. KGD-1209 and KPG-59 were found susceptible and rest, two hundred ninety six lines including Radhey, K 850, KGR-16, KGR 22 and KGR-19 and KGR-39 were found highly susceptible. Gurha <italic>et al</italic>. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="bib001">2002</xref>) screened 82 chick pea genotypes against alternaria blight, GNG-469 was found resistant and 12 exhibited moderately resistant reaction. Kaul <italic>et al</italic>. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="bib002">2005</xref>) found three varieties resistant against fusarium wilt in Kabuli gram and 8 varieties as moderately resistant. Earlier, Mishra <italic>et al</italic>. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="bib003">2003</xref>) attributed multi factors for resistance of pigeon pea.</p></sec></body><back><ref-list><title>References
